A message received yesterday afternoon from Indianapolis states that Mrs. David W. Hartman, of this city, had died at 11 o’clock in St. Vincent’s Hospital as the result of a surgical operation for relief from tumor. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

Mrs. Hartman was about 55 years old and was the widow of the late David W. Hartman. She leaves three children, Mrs. Edward Cotton, and Kent Wise, of this city, and a son Robert Hartman, who is now a soldier in the United States troops in the Philippine Islands. She had been ill for some time and an operation was thought to be the only hope for her but she never rallied from the operation, which was performed yesterday morning. Mrs. Edward Cotton was at her beside when she died.
Mrs. Hartman was a lifetime member of the First Methodist Church and her life was one of faithful service. She was a type of the humble Christian and her character and true worth will long live as a pleasant remembrance to those who knew her best and who loved her for her many kindly acts and noble example. -s
